What Happens After Your Session? Behind the Scenes of My Editing Process

Ever wonder what happens between your session and gallery delivery?

Whether it’s your wedding day, a family mini session, a branding shoot, or a cheer portrait, the photos I take are just the beginning of the process. A lot of care and intention goes into turning those raw images into the final gallery you receive. Editing is where your memories are polished, fine-tuned, and made to shine.

Let’s take a peek behind the scenes so you know exactly what goes into creating your final photos—and why it’s worth the wait.

1. Importing & Backing Up

The moment your session wraps up, I back up your images in multiple places to keep your memories safe. This part is invisible, but it’s critical—your images are protected before I even start editing.

2. Culling the Best of the Best

For every image you see in your final gallery, there are often dozens more behind the scenes. I carefully select the best: genuine expressions, crisp focus, great movement, and those little moments that tell your story.

You won’t see blinking, duplicates, or awkward transitions. Instead, I curate a gallery that feels intentional and fully “you.”

3. Editing & Retouching

This is where the real transformation happens.

Once the best images are selected, I send them to my trusted editing team for a foundational edit—balancing exposure, colour, contrast, and overall consistency.

Then I personally review every image and apply custom final touches. Depending on the session, that may include:

  • Lighting & Colour Corrections – Brightening flat images, enhancing golden light, and correcting tones to reflect what you actually experienced. (You’ll really notice this in studio portraits, maternity, and outdoor family sessions.)

  • Skin Tone Balancing – Especially important in mixed lighting or if flash was used—this ensures natural, glowing skin without over-editing.

  • Background Cleanup – I’ll remove exit signs, cords, garbage bins, and other distractions when possible, especially in key images like bridal party portraits and indoor sessions.

  • Head Swaps – If someone’s blinking or not looking in one image but nailed the smile in another, I’ll blend the two to create the perfect group shot.

  • Minor Fixes – Things like makeup on clothing, hair ties on wrists, lint, or visible bra straps can often be cleaned up too—especially if they show up in several photos.

  • Nighttime & Low-Light Enhancements – Fireworks, receptions, and golden hour shots get special attention to bring out detail and vibrance without making things look over-processed.

These detailed retouches are generally focused on key images—moments you’ll print, frame, or share widely. I want those images to feel polished and timeless while still staying true to the moment.

What can extend your turnaround time? If something like makeup transfers onto clothing and shows up in every photo, I’ll need to clean each one manually. It’s worth it, but it does take time—especially during busy season!

4. Exporting & Uploading Your Gallery

Once everything is finalized, I export your images in high resolution and upload them to your private online gallery. Depending on the session, you’ll get a download pin, a favourites feature, and the ability to share the link with family and friends.

5. Turnaround Times

Delivery time varies depending on the season and the type of session:

  • Weddings (peak season – June to October): 8–10 weeks

  • Weddings (off-season): 4–8 weeks

  • Portrait sessions (engagements, families, branding, etc.): 2–4 weeks year-round

If your session includes more complex edits or retouching across many images, I’ll always communicate transparently if delivery will take a little longer.

My Editing Style

My style is warm, vibrant, and true-to-life. I avoid trendy filters and heavy airbrushing because I want your photos to still feel timeless ten years from now. I lean into soft contrast, natural skin tones, and colours that feel rich but real.

Whether we’re outdoors at golden hour, in a cozy studio, or capturing fireworks under the stars, I want your photos to reflect your real experience—elevated and ready to relive again and again.

Thank You for Trusting Me

Editing takes time, but it’s done with so much care. I want every gallery to feel beautiful, polished, and truly yours. Thank you for your trust—and your patience—as I bring your images to life.

In the meantime, feel free to check out my recent blog posts, browse my Instagram, or reach out if you have any questions. Your story deserves to be told beautifully—and I can’t wait to show you what we created.
